In my house every dinner has its staples. There’s always rice, beans, and plantains. Normally there’s a form of chicken or rice pasta. Listen up. Pasta should only be served one way and that is not with rice. PERIOD.
Plantains are really large bananas that are tossed in a little sugar and cooked for a few minutes. The US needs this. We have been missing out on so much.
My favorite part of the day is the coffee break during class. I rotate shops each day, and everyday it’s a new experience. The coffee here is super sweet and doesn’t need sugar or sweeteners. It’s not as strong and people here sell coffee in very small quantities…so this coffee lover is getting used to the weird look every time I reply yes when asked if I am sure I want a grande…However, Starbucks still has the best cup of coffee because it’s SO strong.
Everyday there’s a new test for my will power. The bakeries smell so delicious and there are dozens of sweet treats. Every day after the gym I walk into the bakery and just stare. There are pastries filled with nutella and frosting, breads with different jams, and too many cinnamon rolls to count!
Even though the food is pretty delicious, I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I miss Taco Bell. Mainly just the tacos because tacos here are fried and then covered in different sauces. My goal here is avoid all fast food places that I could have at home. We’ll see how that goes! 5 weeks down!
